PRACTICE

  1. Under Surnames, click the first letter of the surname (last name) of interest.

  2. If the surname is listed, click the name.

  3. Click the Subscribe to "Surname"-L link.

    For example:

    Subscribe to HADDEN-L

    NOTE: When you click the link, your email program should launch.

    The list's administrative address appears in the To field of the email message.

    The word subscribe appears in the Subject field of the email.

    The word subscribe also appears in the body of the email.

  4. If you want to use this email account for your discussion list email, click the Send button.

  5. If you want to use another email account such as Yahoo! Mail, access your email account and open a new message. Copy the list's administrative address into the To field. Type the word subscribe in the Subject and in the body of the message. Click the Send button.

  6. Check your email about five minutes after sending the message. If you have successfully subscribed to the list, you will receive an email with the message, You have been added to the subscriber list of (name of list).

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Print out and keep this email message. It contains instructions for sending messages to the list and unsubscribing from the list.

  7. To search the list's archives, scroll down towards the bottom of the page. Click the Search the "Surname" archives link.

  8. Type your ancestor's first and last name in the Query box.

  9. Select a year to search.

  10. Click the Search button.

  11. Review your results.

  12. Click the Full link to review the entire message.
