  1. Verify that you are in the GRC Search.

  2. Type the surname (last name) of your ancestor in the Surname box.

  3. Type the first name of your ancestor in the First Name box.

  4. Click the Search button.

  5. Review your results.

    (NOTE: If too many results are returned, go back to the search page and click the down arrow to the right of the All States and Countries box. Choose a state or country to search.)

  6. Click the page numbers of any results of interest.

  7. Review the other names listed on page. If any of the names seem familiar, it is possible that the record pertains to your ancestor.

  8. Make a note of the entire citation including your ancestor's name, the state, series number, volume number and page for the specific book in which that name appears.

  9. NOTE: If too many results are returned after you perform an initial search, go back to the search page and click the down arrow to the right of the All States and Countries box. Choose a state or country to search.

  10. Return to the tutorial for information on ordering records from the DAR Library.
